IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING HOMEOWNER PREPARATION FOR FIBER INSTALLATION

Please be advised that BTI is not endorsing any specific contractor/vendor for the PVC conduit/wiring installation that needs to be completed at your home/business. We invited area contractors to attend training classes on the requirements of the project. The contractors listed attended our class. Information on what is required can be found on our website. Please contact us if you have any questions and/or concerns.

Town of Troy Project Q & A

1.
When will the Town of Troy FTTH project begin?
BTI plans to start the project in May 2011. We have RUS approval to connect customers on a per zone basis. This means that we will be plowing and connecting by zones. A zone map, address list by zone and sequence of construction is provided by this link.

2.
What could cause the project to be delayed?
BTI needs to have approval on several items before the project can be started. If we do not have the necessary approvals, we will need to delay the start date.

3.
What approvals are needed?

Engineering ContractCompleted, waiting for RUS approval

4.
When will the outside plant work be completed?
The outside plant work should be completed in October. This includes plowing of the mainline and drops.

5.
What could prevent the work from being completed by the scheduled October timeframe?
The weather and availability of material could affect the scheduled complete date.

6.
When will BTI services be available in the Town of Troy?
Since this project is a 50% grant from the BIP program, all of the fiber optic cable must be in place, tested and approved by RUS before BTI can turn up any customer services. BTI estimates turning up services 3 to 4 weeks after the outside Plant Contractor has completed a zone.

7.
How will BTI schedule the turning up of services?
When RUS signs off on the OSP portion of the project, about 3 to 4 weeks after the Plant Contractor has completed your zone, BTI will begin turning up services. We will schedule customers in the order that we received their wiring requirement form. Click to View Form
It is very important that you complete the necessary wiring and submit your form ASAP.

8.
What services will be available from BTI?
BTI offers a triple play package consisting of voice, data and video. In addition, all of the services can be purchased ala carte. A complete listing of services can be found through the Services tab at the top of page.

9.
What is the cost of having the fiber drop plowed to my house?
During the original construction period there is no cost to have the fiber drop plowed to your home/business. The project was engineered to provide a drop to all existing establishments in the Town of Troy. If the home/business owner does not want a drop plowed during the original construction period, the drop will be buried in the road right-of-way for future use. If a customer chooses to have their drop plowed after the construction period has been completed, BTI will charge for the drop construction.

10.
When should I cancel services with my current provider?
If you are considering connecting BTI services, we encourage you to contact your current provider to determine if you are in a contract. Some providers have an auto renewal clause and you may be in a contract without your knowledge. If you are in a month to month service agreement, you can wait until the time of your cutover to cancel services from your current provider. If you wish to port your current phone number, BTI will handle the porting process with your provider. Do not disconnect your services.

11.
What do I need to do before construction begins in my zone if I plan to subscribe to BTI services?
In May 2011 the Outside Plant Contactor will begin installing the fiber mainline cable along the road ROW. Construction will then be done on a "by zone" process. To see the zone sequence and verify the zone you live in, please click here to be redirected. As the contractor is installing the mainline in front of your home, he will be verifying that you signed up to have a drop plowed to your home/business and have a 1” duct stubbed out of your house indicating where the drop should be plowed to.

12.
What if I am not comfortable doing the inside wiring?
BTI met with several electrical contractors regarding the project. You may hire one of the contractors listed on the Contractor tab at the top of the page, to do the necessary wiring. They are aware of our wiring requirements.
